Norsk Hydro requested a 3D model of the complete terminal area with a medium level of details. This model was primarily to be used for explosion analysis. It could also be used for other purposes, and specific areas of the terminal were to have additional scanning at increased level of detail. A new system for terrain representation was developed for this project, where scan data was converted into accurate surface objects. This highly accurate model resulted in more refined gas flow analysis and better risk assessment for this site. Videos of the project and the 3D model itself are now part of Norsk Hydro’s plant electronic documentation.
